Something that can be sustained, e.g., a lifestyle, a business practice, a habit. It's about thinking long-term, really long-term. An example is the Seventh Generation precept of the Iroquois Confederacy that requires chiefs to consider the impact of their decisions on the seventh generation. As a people, Native Americans had had to come to terms with the limited resources available to them that required them to live in a sustainable way.
